MMDA: Our enforcers are only allowed to apprehend motorists for traffic violations

MMDA: Our enforcers are only allowed to apprehend motorists for traffic violations Not for any violations regarding driver’s license codes by Leandre Grecia PHOTO: LEANDRE GRECIA If you’ve heard about Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) enforcers apprehending and penalizing motorists for supposedly violating the restriction code indicated in their driver’s licenses, take note: The agency is not authorized to do so. There are rumors going around that some MMDA enforcers have been flagging down motorists to check for violations regarding their driver’s license restriction codes. Agency chairman Danilo Lim has made some clarifications regarding this, and advised motorists through social media that MMDA officers only have jurisdiction over traffic violations, and not over driver’s license restrictions. Check out the full statement below: Lim mentioned there are no confirmed reports of such incidents so far, but he also assured the public that the agency is investigating the matter further. Likewise, he advised motorists to not hesitate to get the names and photos of any MMDA personnel who takes part in this new modus operandi, and make a report to the agency whenever they encounter these incidents.

We recently reported that the Land Transportatio is looking to implement stricter policies regarding driver’s license restrictions, but that has yet to be finalized—the LTO says it is targeting to roll out the new policy by the end of the year. For now, you can follow the existing guidelines which you can learn more about here
